DropBox plus - can I share a folder with multiple users without growing their Basic DB sizes?

A colleague at a research institution told me that he has the DB Plus option with 2TB space, and it allows him to share a folder with his team, without the contents in the folder counting towards their basic accounts.
That's not accurate. If you share a folder with someone it WILL take up space in their account.
If the other people don't need edit access, you can use a view-only shared link and they'll be able to access the files without impacting their own account.
