Update asks me to disable Dropbox Backup & wants to download files locally.
I'm literally so confused because Dropbox all of a sudden wants me to update Dropbox Backup and prompted me to disable backup in order to update and then proceed to try to download OVER 1TB of data onto my 512 GB Macbook. Why in the WORLD do I need to disable backup in order to update. Maybe I'm not understanding properly, but the entire reason why I use Dropbox is so that I can use my computer since I have files that take up a lot of space. Is there any workaround for this? Now im concerned that my backup files have been deleted from dropbox .......

I have the same problem. The main reason I used Dropbox over competitors was the ability to store stuff online over leaving it on the computer to take up space.

Hi there, pristinetravel97, I'm here to figure out what we can do about this!
Do you have a macOS device on your end? Would you mind clarifying your exact OS on your current device?
If you happen to have a screenshot of the message you mentioned, that prompted you to disable Backup, I'd love to have a visual too.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hi!
Yes, I have a MacOS device and it is currently running Sonoma 14.4. I have attached the message that popped up for me. When I clicked Disable Backup the first time, it then started to download all of my files back onto my computer that I had made online-only, so I had to try and intervene and re-enable backup and re-upload my files to online only, and restore the backups that it had deleted by disabling it.

Hey pristinetravel97, thanks for that!
In your initial message, you mentioned that the app asked you to update your Backup. Is it possible that you were asked to update to the new macOS for File Provider instead?
When you choose to disable your Backup, does it then give you the option to choose between: "Keep content in folders on this Mac"or "Leave content in Dropbox"?
You also mentioned that it started downloading your online-only files locally. Are you talking about files within your Backup, or outside too? Did you see their file icons change when this happened?

I'm very gutted with this new Backup Update feature, it was working FINE, so why change it? Somehow dropbox managed to move all the folders from my Documents folder to a folder called (My mac) in the dropbox folder. And now to move it back to my documents folder I have to delete it from dropbox(sic). It was already synced!!!
