Dropbox is basically a folder on your machine. Its a bit of a magic one though, so, whatever you put in it replicates to the cloud. Test it with a file or 2 🙂
In terms of backup that does sound about right - 750gb is a HUGE volume of data!

And my upload speed earlier was between 1.7 and 3.5, depending on whose speed dial I used. Now it's around 11. But I'm going to have to bite the bullet and trash a LOT of photos. A good part of what I amassed in forty years as a professional photographer is still on the drive, and most of it can be trashed no problem; the problem is that the task will be mammoth. But I'm retired!
