We can confirm that with the most recent releases of Dropbox that these issues should be resolved. Users affected by this issue were unable to see all of the backups on their account. This meant that when they believe they deleted some or all of their files, there could still be backups taking up space on their account. This should no longer be affecting users who should be able to see all of their backups.
You can find out deleted information on disabling and deleting backups below:
If you disable the backup and choose to "Leave content in Dropbox", your backup content would still be there until it was permanently deleted.
When you go to the Backups page and see no content, be sure to check the deleted section, too.
You can download the files from this location if you need to store them locally on your device.
To clear out the data from the deleted backup, follow these steps:- Navigate to
dropbox.com/backup/all
- Click on
Show deleted backups
- Select their backup and click on
permanently delete
Some users did not have backups, but they were members of shared folders which were taking up space on their accounts. You can remove shared folders using these instructions.
If you are still experiencing quota issues after following these steps, then confirm that we can reach out to you via email and our support agents will look into this with you. - Navigate to

Do you possibly have another account which you have forgotten about?
This happened to me. I had an account under another password which had a lot of files in. I hadn't used it for years and opened another account by mistake. This old account was pushing me over the limit. I deleted the files on there and solved the problem.

Don't recall having any other account in dropbox. If i did it would be under another email- id and therefore should be classified as a different account?
My understanding is that the userid is based on unique emailids?

I'm pretty sure my old account was under my TalkTalk address and my new one under BTInternet.
In fact I just checked. I'm currently logged in under my BT email address, but show no bytes of 2gb used. I logged out and logged in under my TalkTalk email and it's still showing as having 1.6gb of 2gb free. So it appears that any files I upload are still being saved to my old account even though I'm logged in under my new account. Strange!!

This shows us the same thing, so it's okay, thanks kjayak.
And it looks like you're well under your available quota, so where do you see that you're out of space? Are you getting emails mentioning this?
If so, I believe the most logical explanation would be the one Jamb0tam suggested, so you might want to compare the email address of your Dropbox account to the one receiving these emails, to see if they're different.

I am not getting any emails about my account being out of space.
I have no other account. It comes the moment i try to do anything on dropbox - like look at a link that someone shared etc and
of course on the dropbox app that i downloaded i keep getting message that i am over the 2 GB limit!!
So i cannot move any file into dropbox or do anything with it , because the constant flurry of upgrade upgrade messages comes at every turn!!

Hey kjayak, sorry to see that you're having this issue.
What does your plan page report regarding your usage?

Not sure which is the Plan tab but in settings bottom left this is what it shows.
