It's important to know that sharing credentials like that is against the Dropbox terms and could result in the account being suspended. Accounts are meant for an individual and should not be shared in that way.

When you're a member of a shared folder you're still limited to the space available in your own account.

The folder was created in his account with 2TB which he is nowhere near using even 1/4 of that storage.

You're not uploading to a folder in his account. You're uploading to a shared folder in your own account, and that content syncs with the copy of the folder in his account.

How we can work this out?

If he has a Professional, Essentials or Business account, ask him to send you a File Request instead. You'll be able to upload directly to his account without affecting your own. If he has a Plus or Family account, you can still use a File Request but each one will still have a 2GB limit.
