is Dropbox application a malware?

A virus protection software indicated that the dropbox executable file is a malware and required to remove it. I am wondering if this is true or any one had hte same issue?

  • Hey donli, thanks for posting on this matter here!

It shouldn't be true (as long as you don't have any malware in your Dropbox files), though based on your description, it seems one of the folders was on their quarantine list.

To get past that, I’d suggest making sure you're running the latest version of the app on both Dropbox and Malware Bytes and try again

Hope this is helpful to you, keep me updated in case you still experience the same behavior.
Wishing you a great weekend ahead!

For what this is worth, I'm a casual Dropbox user, but I trust Dropbox as much as pretty much any other program. Dropbox has a long history of being a legitimate business that doesn't make money by infiltrating you computer or otherwise by deception. You'll need the application to do syncing kinds of functions, so if you want to do that stuff, install and don't worry about it, as long as you have the latest version and say updated. In short, the Dropbox application is a much better and safer option than most of what's out there. And if you like it and have the money, I highly recommend a paid account. It's a little steep considering the amount of storage you get, but the functionality of Dropbox really is top notch.
