How to sort files in the Dropbox desktop app?
I have been searching for an answer to this, but no one else has a solution for what to do when the normal sorting options are not working. Everyone says just click View and sort by name. Well, this option is not working, or I wouldn't be writing in.
I am using a brand new macbook running Sonoma 14.4 w/ M2 chip and 8 GB RAM. I am trying to sort dropbox desktop app by name as it is hard to find things otherwise. I just stopped using a Macbook from 2013 and I never had so many problems as I am having w my new one! A friend told me to ' fix it in terminal" but I am not that skilled to want to do that on a brand new mac.
All other threads are rather old.
thank you

Hi pwerlin
Sorting of files/folders etc. is not a Dropbox issue - its one from Apple and on the operating system. It is OSx which sorts and organises everything you 'see' on the screen.
I suggest speaking to Apple for assistance. Or if you are a bit more confident try https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchlp1745/mac

Thank you. I just got this new Mac and all these new issues are popping up that I never had before. I did IT support but not this kind of stuff and it’s maddening trying to find a solution or at least an explanation for things. It’s like how they define insanity. Trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I love the little penguins at the bottom of your post.

I am also on a Mac and find the sorting infuriating as well - how it can sort different across all different folders! There is a way of resetting all and starting it again from a Terminal command.
And thank you 🙂
