Android - can't move rename files - Dropbox freezes

Hi. Just today, from within the Dropbox app, I'm browsing files, and tried to rename a Microsoft docx file. Just to clarify, I didn't open it, I just selected the rename option from the menu next to the filename. So I entered a new name, click save. And I get a spinning graphic "renaming" and it stays there for minutes, I'm have to force close the app. It did this repeatedly

Similarly, I get the same error when trying to move a file to another folder. I get the "moving" graphic and nothing happens. Have to force close app.

Android app version 338.2.2
Phone: Samsung S20FE (UK)
Android 13

  • Hey hmafooz, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Have you tried clearing the app's cache from your settings, to see if that helps?

If not, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, which should do the trick.

Let me know how it goes!

Mine do as well. I wanted to move some files from one folder to another and got the same result. I tried to delete a folder, got the same.

I tried on my phone (App) got the message (check your internet connection) Tried with wifi and my internet on the phone.

Tried on my computer via homepage and it just stood like that for ever. I have tried refreshing, removing cache and so. Nothing helps. So I think the problem is at dropbox themself.

Hey MilleThagaard, so if I understand correctly, you're having trouble doing some actions on our website on your computer and on the Dropbox app on your phone.

Regarding the website, have you tried a different browser, to see if that helps?

Hi. I delete cache shortly after you replied, that didn't help and the error persisted. I tried again just now and it's seems to have resolved itself. Not sure what fixed it bit it's ok now
    Kind regards, Haseeb
