Why does the mobile app need to be open to download and upload files?
Hi all I noticed that the Dropbox Android app needs to be open to upload photos or download offline files. This can't be correct as it should be processed in the background without me having to open...

Hi Jay
You are right.
1. When I take a photo with my phone, it gets uploaded on Dropbox - I monitored the Desktop app and after a few seconds, the photo was uploaded to Dropbox.
2. I just need to "refresh the" Home" screen of the Dropbox app on my phone to show the latest photo/file/whatever.
Never too old to learn.
Appreciate your help.

Hi ITConsultingAfrica, thanks for posting today!
For camera uploads, could you check if background uploading is enabled, and that the battery settings allow the app to run in the background without forcing it to shut down?
For offline files, the app needs to be open in order to update offline files in the app.
Keep me posted!

Hi Jay
Tx for the suggestions.
Not sure if it will help, but I added Dropbox to the "Apps that won't be put to sleep" list.
My phone (Note 10+) reports that Dropbox is a high battery user (0.8%) but OneDrive tops the list at 17.3% lol.
I unselected Dropbox from the "Optimise battery usage" list.
All I did not change was the global setting for Adaptive battery (Limit battery usage for apps that you don't use often) and Put unused apps to sleep, as Dropbox is definitely not in any of these categories.
Background uploading (Camera uploads) are and have always been enabled.
I guess I will have to wait and see.
