Dropbox video-No Sound
submitting an assignment for homework. Uploaded the video, but there is no sound on the link. it only says preview, however, even when I do sign in, I get the full length of the video, but no sound.

Hmm, ok...
If you have the images, but not the sound, and that it's working when you open it locally, then we would need to investigate further.
Could you write about your problem to the support here:
https://www.dropbox.com/support ?Make sure to include a link to the file, so that we can try to reproduce the issue on our end.
Cheers!
Mod note: You can see more in regards to what file types you can preview, here: https://help.dropbox.com/view-edit/file-types-that-preview.

Hey davidweb, thanks for reaching out on the Community, let's look into that together!
As a first step, can you confirm that you've downloaded the latest Dropbox mobile version (72.2.2)?
Also, if you've uploaded the file online (& you're comfortable sharing), could you include a shared link here, so so as to check the case together? Any other detail that would help us determine the case would be extremely useful (eg. do you experience this behavior on all videos or only on a particular one)?
Thanks in advance & we're looking forward to your reply!

Alright. Made a shareable test. I recorded my screen with the iOS screen recording function of iOS 11.
Here's a link to the original from iCloud Drive : https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0uDpv1dlwXVx4BxIoBDwWA0qQ#ScreenRecording_11-30-2017_07-55-14
Here's a link to a Dropbox version uploaded through the iOS version : https://www.dropbox.com/s/ocimaixtu5thzaf/File%202017-11-30%2C%207%2057%2005%20AM.mp4?dl=0
And here's a link to a Dropbox version uploaded through desktop (Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.1, all updates done) : https://www.dropbox.com/s/6o3q31xfvblqbj6/ScreenRecording_11-30-2017%2007-55-14-from-desktop.MP4?dl=0
You can see there's no difference in both the desktop and iOS version. Both seem to be stripped of my beautiful chanting voice 🎵 buuuut as AgusPrabowo pointed out, it seems to be the direct access on the web that is the problem (and the iOS video player embedded inside the iOS Dropbox app which doesn't output audio either).
When downloaded and opened externally, the sound of the video is there. Soooo for people who are coming here that have to share a video with a client, force the download by changing the "?dl=0" at the end of the shareable URL to "?dl=1". When the client clicks the link, it's going to start downloading immediately instead of showing them a preview online! A nice tip for nice people 👍

I tried this and it doesn't work.
Why is there no sound with videos I share from dropbox - not cool!
- Mark7 years agoSuper User IIDropbox only provides previews on its website.
If it isnt working then log a ticket so they can work out what codecs are missing and look at adding them to the site. - hiphip7 years agoNew member | Level 2
I just 'assumed' that sound on videos could be shared from DropBox.
Makes sense right?
I've been sharing videos the last few weeks and just today realized
that NONE of the videos I shared have any sound.
I'll be cancelling my subscription with DropBox.
- Mark7 years agoSuper User IIThey can be.
But if they arent you need to tell them it isnt working. Did you not think of testing them?
If you do want to cancel you can do so at www.dropbox.com/downgrade. However, please remember you will keep the subscription space you have until the payment term runs out. You do not get any pro-rata refunds. - hiphip7 years agoNew member | Level 2
Thanks for the response, but this is on DropBox - as a customer, I shouldn't have to waste time with 'testing' DropBox to see if it works or not. It smacks of false advertising if DropBox is selling a service that doesn't work. Get it fixed DropBox - I'm out.

It's not on Dropbox if you upload a video using a codec that they don't support or, possibly, don't know about. No single service or application can support every possible file format. If you're not getting audio on a video you've uploaded to Dropbox, then you need to tell them so they can look at why it might be happening.
The service works just fine and there is no false advertisement. I often share videos with their audio intact. The problem here isn't Dropbox.
