Prevent automatic upload to online Dropbox

I have just started using my account on the online Dropbox webpage, not the app (the app cannot be installed on my OS X 10.11 MacBook).

I would like to ensure that Dropbox will not automatically sync or backup all the files on my laptop to my Dropbox account without me requesting this option. Could you please confirm that Dropbox does not have default settings that upload all my files? If there are default settings to do this, how do I deactivate them?

Many thanks.

If you're not using the app, it's not possible for Dropbox to sync or backup your files. When using the website, all uploads and downloads are manual.
