Does dropbox notify the file or folder owner who downloads or acceses the files and folder?

Dear community,

I've just clicked on a 3-year-old download link which once gave me access to a folder full of shared pictures.

When I clicked on it, it said that the link was expired.

Nevertheless, I'd like to know whether or not the folder-owner, which is not me, will be notified that I tried to access the shared picture folder.

Or if it doesn't say who tried to access it, maybe Dropbox notifies the owner that someone tried it.

- Due to the fact that the link was expired, perhaps it wouldn't notify the owner anymore, even if this function normally existed.

- It might also depend on which type of Dropbox-account the owner and I have?

Thanks in advance for telling me how this works.

Cheers

Andy

  • Hi Andreas L.15; welcome to our Community and happy Monday!

To directly cut to the chase, no, the expired shared link's owner won't get notified about this in either of your scenarios. This would be viable through the Dropbox Transfer feature which allows the transfer's owners to see the number of times a transfer was viewed or downloaded.

I hope this clears things up and I'm just a post away should you have any more questions Andy.

    Have a lovely week ahead!
