I want to move my Dropbox folder to D drive but it says I have to disable backup
Hello, I read some other advice about this, and this is how far I got before I got stuck. Opened the Drobox app on my Taskbar. Clicked on my Avatar and then picked Preferences. Went down to Sync. Clicked on Dropbox Folder Location, changed it to my D Drive. Started moving, then stopped and said I had to disable PC Backup. Opened up the app on the Taskbar again and paused syncing indefinitely. Went through all the steps again, but got the same message. Any suggestions? Renate
Can't restore data from an old external device backup
When I look at DropBox with on the web, I can see that I have two external device backups named "Shared Data" and "Ventura ...". When I look at the backups using the app, I can only see one device backup With either of the backups, I can see no way of restoring them to a new machine. I do not have the original external device. With the "Ventura ..." backup I can see the files and download them as there are only a handful of them and then can be zipped. The "Shared Data" backup is 128GB with a considerable number of files and folders. It is therefore not feasible to navigate the complete structure, create the folder structure and then transfer the files in a folder and individual zips. Help is appreciated. I'm totally baffled! I appear to be paying for a service I'm not receiving. I joined Dropbox over a year ago, but realised only recently that nothing was being backed-up. My son, who is far more tech savvy than I am, thought he'd got it sorted. I could find my files in Backup - but they'd disappeared from my computer. Why? It's a Back-up, not a wipe clean! So over the holiday we tried again, as none of the recent files were backed-up. This time the files and folders which I'd had to recreate were Backed-up and remained on my computer BUT all the previously backed-up files and folders had disappeared from the Back-up - and this included 10 years work in my Family History Files. Where are they? They weren't even in the deleted folder! I'm now in a worse mess than if I'd never joined. What is going on? The program is far from intuitive, and is causing me a lot of aggravation.
View dropbox backups on app
As described in this thread, the new version of dropbox backup is great but has a major downside: files stored via backups can no longer be accessed within the dropbox app! Quoting @mbriney from the above-linked thread because I can't say it any better: I understand the principle of having the major "backups" be in a different segment of dropbox.. but it shouldn't be that hard to access all the files. Maybe inside the regular current Dropbox app, feature a button that allows up to actually open the files that are in this "backups" section? OR maybe create another "Dropbox Backups" app that will allow us to remotely view these backup files without having to go thru the browser?
Can I download my external drive backup onto my new external drive?
Hello The external USB hard drive which I used with Dropbox Backup was physically damaged and will not connect. I would like to download 1TB of files stored in Dropbox Backup to put onto a new drive. Is there a way to point the entire Dropbox backup at a new drive? Reading this, if I log out and log back into Dropbox on my Mac, my only computer, can I point Dropbox Backup to a new External and have it download all of the files slowly? Hi, I'm one of the users who suddenly lost god knows how much storage space and Dropbox stopped syncing, even though I keep almost nothing in those folders. I've tried deleting all the shared folders from years ago and whatever else I assumed was taking up space (images, mostly) and I'm still very low on personal files but all topped up in "Backup." Everyone else's posts in the community had their own Backup levels at 0. What exactly is taking up 3.5 GB of space in mine? Thank you!
Size discrepancy between Dropbox and the content in my drive.
When i look at one of my folders online it says about 840gb. Meanwhile on my external drive locally the file is 874.94 GB How come this large discrepancy. It makes me worried to have my files on dropbox if there may be files left unsynced. It is entirely synced however i recently renamed the folder and im waiting for dropbox to say "synced" before proceeding. I have seen loads of people having these kinds of issues with Dropbox since 3 years ago. Unfortunately this issue remained unsolved by dropbox until today. What happened was I joined our company Dropbox team a few months ago. Now they are changing the subscription, and one of my colleagues wanted to remove me from the Team. In doing so, she deleted my account due to misunderstanding of the website wordings. On my computer, my downloads, desktop, documents files are gone. I tried restoring my files from Apple time machine but failed. It says the upper files path does not exist. Some traces deleting the folder somehow broke the path to the folders. I am in desperate need of recovering my account.
Automatically pause Dropbox Backup/syncing to allow unmounting of external drive.
Stop Dropbox from preventing unmounting of drives that are currently being backed up. Instead pause backup and allow unmounting. Resume backup when drive is mounted again. (Same behavior could maybe be implemented for sync (Dropbox folder), but at least for backup of external drives.) Backblaze does this, so it's clearly possible.
