I have recently upgraded to Ubuntu 24.10 and have noticed that Dropbox never gets past starting. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and settingfs.inotify.max_user_watches to 1 million and it still does not work. The reason for settingfs.inotify.max_user_watches to 1 million was because this was the number that stopped this happening in 24.04. Has anyone else come across this issue and has found a resolution?386Views0likes6CommentsThe Dropbox application does not open on my Windows 10 computer

I can open it in an android, but not in windows.1.5KViews0likes3CommentsI keep getting a pop-up notification to sign up for Dropbox.
Hi, Out of the blue, a few days back, after tinkering with my DB account, when I start my computer, I get a panel from DB inviting me to sign up for an account - preferable a paid-for account. If I try to delete the message it comes back. What has caused this and how can I stop it? At the moment I dont need or want a premium account. Many thanks. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, but that didn't work.Solved3.4KViews0likes5Comments"Access is denied" error after transfer of Dropbox from an old computer to a new one
Hi, My laptop screen broke and my software and data was mirrored on to my new laptop. My Dropbox files are on my computer, but the Dropbox App isn't working. For a short while I did not realize this, because I could actually save new files to what appeared to be my Dropbox folder. I suspect I have to re-install Dropbox. My concern is that I added new files to the dropbox folders that I don't want to lose. I haven't found a way to easily identify those files to preserve them by copying them to a different folder. One of the issues is that I get an error message when I try to access a Dropbox folder directly. I am pasting the log entry below. Is there a work around or do I have to accept that I have to loose the new files? bn.BUILD_KEY: Dropbox bn.VERSION: 202.4.5551 bn.constants.WINDOWS_SHELL_EXT_VERSION: 75 bn.is_frozen: True machine_id: 98a1da10-9452-4884-ac20-f29cb73449eb pid: 23900 cwd: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dropbox\\Client' real_path='C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dropbox\\Client' mode=0o40777 uid=0 gid=0 parent mode=0o40777 uid=0 gid=0 HOME: None appdata: 'C:\\Users\\rlandgraf_surface\\AppData\\Local\\Dropbox\\instance1' real_path='C:\\Users\\rlandgraf_surface\\AppData\\Local\\Dropbox\\instance1' not found parent not found dropbox_path: None not found parent not found sys_executable: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dropbox\\Client\\Dropbox.exe' real_path='C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dropbox\\Client\\Dropbox.exe' mode=0o100777 uid=0 gid=0 parent mode=0o40777 uid=0 gid=0 trace.__file__: 'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dropbox\\Client\\202.4.5551\\python-packages.zip\\dropbox\\client\\ui\\common\\boot_error.pyc' real_path='C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dropbox\\Client\\202.4.5551\\python-packages.zip\\dropbox\\client\\ui\\common\\boot_error.pyc' not found parent not found TMP: C:\Users\RLANDG~1\AppData\Local\Temp TEMP: C:\Users\RLANDG~1\AppData\Local\Temp tempdir: 'C:\\Users\\RLANDG~1\\AppData\\Local\\Temp' real_path='C:\\Users\\RLandgraf\\AppData\\Local\\Temp' mode=0o40777 uid=0 gid=0 parent mode=0o40777 uid=0 gid=0 Traceback (most recent call last): File "desktop/dropbox/client/main.py", line 8214, in main_startup File "desktop/dropbox/client/main.py", line 2691, in initialize File "desktop/dropbox/client/main.py", line 1702, in startup_low File "desktop/dropbox/client/main.py", line 1317, in safe_makedirs File "desktop/dropbox/fsutil.py", line 709, in safe_makedirs File "desktop/dropbox/overrides.py", line 241, in makedirs File "desktop/dropbox/overrides.py", line 241, in makedirs File "desktop/dropbox/overrides.py", line 241, in makedirs File "desktop/dropbox/overrides.py", line 254, in makedirs PermissionError: [WinError 5] Access is denied: 'C:\\Users\\rlandgraf_surface\\AppData'399Views0likes2CommentsCan the Dropbox desktop app start and sync files without logging in to Windows (Server)?

We have a Dropbox installed on a Windows Server 2016. In every accounts, when starting it, a popup displays "Your computer is currently offline. Please check your network settings". When putting the mouse cursor over the icon in the icon area, it displays "Connecting...". And when clicking on it, it's displayed "Starting...". Even after hours, Dropbox never completes its startup. Dropbox was uninstalled/reinstalled, I manually cleaned it following another help page. I installed full stable versions from ~v150 to the beta v200, same error. The network works fine, I can open dropbox.com in the browser and log in. I tried to install Dropbox on another VM with Windows 7 running on the same WMware host, it worked immediately. I really tried everything following the many pages on the subject that I found, but nothing worked. We have another Windows Server 2016 with multiple users with Drobox installed and didn't have those issues on it. I'd like to know if there is a way to trace what Dropbox sees (does it see the network at all?) or the path that it tries to follows, where it's blocked. I tested and dropbox.com ports and 443 connects normally by making a test with telnet from the host. The present version installed is now the stable versionDropbox 198.4.7615 Offline Installer.x64.exe. Any help would be appreciated.1.5KViews0likes12CommentsHow to restore deleted files with Dropbox
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably accidentally deleted files at some point since you opened your Dropbox account (I do this way more than I care to admit). The most notable time was when I accidentally deleted my entire thesis, instead of of some notes I’d taken. Luckily, with Dropbox, you have at least 30 days to restore these files, and it’s really simple. Here’s how to do it. Login to dropbox.com Click on Deleted files from the left-hand side bar Select all of the files you would like to restore Click Restore Files will now be moved back to their previous location That’s it; it really is that simple! But remember, these files won’t stay in the Deleted files section forever, so if you do find yourself needing to Restore files don’t delay! If you're still a little unsure you canmore about Restoring deleted files in Dropbox. Now that you’ve restored your files, what would you like to learn next? Let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help.3.8KViews1like0Commentsdropbox hangs on "starting..." in Manjaro and in Fedora 38
currently on Fedora 38, using dropbox installed from Fedora 38 RPM at https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora/38/x86_64/ Observed behavior: Dropbox hangs on "starting"' Theory: there is something in my Dropbox folder that is hanging Dropbox. Tried: Dropbox hangs on "starting". Originally in Manjaro, around May 1, it began to hang when started. Tried fresh reinstall of Dropbox, then fresh reinstall of Manjaro. Once I installed Dropbox on a fresh system, it pulled in all the files without a problem, but when I rebooted, I got the "starting" message again. I thought it might be the maxhandles parameter so set that, but no change. Rolled back to a fresh install from backup to pre-install state, including config files and no Dropbox folder that I installed and had working until reboot. That still hung on "starting...." Deleted Dropbox folder, config, and app, from my home folder as per https://help.dropbox.com/installs/uninstall-dropbox, Installed Fedora 38 and Fedora 38 dropbox version from https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora/38/x86_64/, and once I followed the instructions to install topicon to get an appindicator, I was able to set selective sync so it would not download everything, but it froze on starting. Reboot led to same result. * full remove of dropbox, including Dropbox folder, install from fedora nautilus dropbox rpm at * install rpm through software gui, it updates itself and starts up, starts syncing everything. no app indicator shows., so no way to get to prefs for selective sync. * reboot. Dropbox starts automatically, app indicator shows, but stuck on starting again.Solved4.2KViews0likes21Comments
