Sharing Permissions
20 TopicsI shared files with edit rights, but the recipients can't edit them.
Hello! I have shared files with 2 members and gave them editing access. They can open dropbox on their end and see the file but cannot edit. One user was able to open a file in another window and make edits but they did not appear in the shared file. We have a family plan if that matters. Help!128Views0likes1CommentI've set passwords for my shared links, but non team members don't get asked for one.
I have set passwords on folders I need to share with people who are not team members. (added a password to editing dan viewing links and saved it) When I test this it by sending the link to an email address not part of the team it does not ask for a password. Any suggestions?Solved7.8KViews0likes17CommentsI think the "1 Shared folder over the limit" needs to be removed.
Dropbox will soon run into serious problems if they do not lift the "1 shared folder over limit" limit. Its only a matter of time before more and more users gather more and more data within their folders and start to experience the same issues my organisation is having. I have now reached my limit, and am now putting my business IP, templates, budgets and designs at risk as I have open / unlocked folders in my company that have zero access permissions. I do not have the option of moving folders or deleting folders as many of my files have links attached to them, and moving them around will de-link the assets created for the specific project, or come from a global library of assets used in multiple projects in multiple locations over many years. I highly recommend that the Dropbox support team urgently resolve this as it changes the overall function and security features that Dropbox offers.302Views0likes3CommentsHow can I make sure only a specific user can access my shared link?
Is there a way to send a share link to a user who does not have a Dropbox account, but restrict the viewing to only that person? In other words, I don't want to send the link with "Anyone with Link" setting, because I don't want them to forward the link to others. I tried the "Only People Invited" option, and I added their email to the Shared List, but it keeps asking for them to create a Dropbox account when they try and view the file. I must be doing something wrong, just not sure what. Any help would be apprecitated.285Views0likes2CommentsI can't download a PDF file from my own Dropbox account
I'm having trouble downloading a PDF from my own site. It isn't overly big. I uploaded it in the first place. Sharing is on. Looking into the Share/Settings for that file I notice that the ability to "Disable Downloads" is set to OFF and greyed out as it is a premium function. I assume this means that the file should be downloadable. If I try to select and Download the file by any means nothing at all happens. I have even copied the file and tried to download a new copy but no success. This has been a discussed issue for many years that I can find. Is it still an issue? Is it maybe simply not allowed for PDF files?1.2KViews0likes5CommentsPDF "view only" share link continues to allow editing
I have edited both my profile settings and the pdf settings specifically to generate a "view only" link. However, every time I go to share the link I continue to see on the top bar that the pdf is editable. Not only is it editable but anyone can edit it for everyone. What do I need to do to change this? I have even logged out of my Dropbox account and used the link to see if it changed anything, it did not. My PDF is clickable with links but, I have tried other PDf's that were not to see if it changed anything and it did the same thing. I need a view only link. How do I get this?Solved2.9KViews0likes7CommentsIs there a way to have a shared folder with a view-only file inside of it?
I'm trying to have all of the files in one spot and was having trouble with the shared files being able to get edited without being in a folder. Is there a way to put a view-only file in a shared folder or is everything in there able to get edited?762Views0likes6CommentsConsolidate all shared link options, so that we don't accidentally give edit rights
OK. I feel that most users, and certainly me, want a super easy way to create View hyperlinks (to share with friends) as opposed to Edit hyperlinks. The way you guys designed the Dropbox web interface is extremely confusing. There are so many different sharing windows -- Settings, the "chain link" icon, the Share folder button. There is no rhyme or reason how this works. When I go into the Settings or use the Manage option, it brings me to a settings box where apparently I can create Edit and View links -- but there's NO WAY TO COPY THEM from that window!! Like seriously, who came up with this crazy nonfunctional design??? Then when I set the settings, and return and use the "chain link" icon, it creates an Edit only link, EVERY TIME REGARDLESS OF ME attempt to set up a View only link! This is hard to catch and that is why I am so worked up about it. I do NOT generally want people Editing my files! I want them to VIEW my files. And I don't want to make a MISTAKE as to which type of link I'm sending, because sending Edit rather than View would destroy my files! I have to cross my fingers and hope that I find the right UI "path" to copy my hyperlinks, and say a prayer and make the Sign of the Cross just praying praying that I'll find the right option!! Please take a look at this insane user design and please fix it ASAP! So crazy how complicated you've made something that should be extremely simple.832Views0likes3CommentsCan we remove the owner of a shared folder that contains sensitive data?
I have a situation where a client's Dropbox has an owner that we needed to downgrade to a member, which we did last week. Today, I discovered a subfolder containing sensitive business information that somehow was created by this former owner, and I need to remove them entirely from this folder, which I cannot do since my client is shown as a member of this folder, and he owns the Dropbox. I cannot change the permission of the owner that needs removed. I have questions: Can the Dropbox owner remove this individual from this subfolder? If not, can we delete the files within without this subfolder owner receiving notification? If this owner receives notification, would they be allowed to recover the files deleted? (The files were added to this folder by this owner in 2021 and 2022 and they do not need to see these files again) It's a tricky situation, but needs resolved. Any suggestions?
