I think this should be a pretty easy one - I'd love to be able to align text, particularly center aligned, but right and justify would likely have valid uses for a lot of people as well. For my part, I'm a comic writer and since we use Dropbox for storing all of our production assets, being able to store the scripts there in Paper would be incredibly useful (rather than having to upload RTF files or use Google Docs separately) but the lack of being able to center text for dialogue makes this not really feasible.17KViews79likes13CommentsDrag and drop heading sections in Paper docs
I love the ability to drag and drop tasks and bullets with drag handles. Can we have the same drag handles for headings/sections, whether they are expanded or collapsed? We rearrange sections in our docs a lot, and currently it's a manual and error-prone process: We have to cut and paste, then go back and grab an image because the last image doesn't come along with the selection, or we cut and paste and it messes up other headers, etc. Drag handles would make this so much easier and would make me more confident in moving things around properly. Thanks!4.2KViews19likes9CommentsText Formatting Options in Paper
So far so good. I will see how my school team likes the new format with the next mtg. Some people have already mentioned this; however, it deserves it's own post. I would like the flexibility to use: colored text highlighting italics different alignments different text sizes Sometimes you have to make certain parts of a document stand out and most people are used to being able to use these features. Thanks.5.7KViews8likes3CommentsMargins and Padding in Paper
What I love about Documents is the immediate paddings and margins they apply in each style. Paper seems to have them on 0. What I mean is this. When you apply a Header 1 in paper it gives you immediate margins. Also in H2. But that's it. All other formats get a zero margin. I don't need much. Just half a line even less. I know it's not something big, but your formatting between elements is so agly. Please when I press enter to change a paragraph give me more that 0 margin. Also between paragraphs and Bulleted List, Check Boxes, and more. You get the ides. It isn't something you need a lot of time to do. Just A/B Test it in 1000 users and see reactions.6KViews19likes12CommentsSupport for multiline LaTeX statements.
Related to https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-Paper/Latex-equation-line-breaks/m-p/271650#M2587 https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-Paper/Newline-within-Latex-Katex-editing-mode/m-p/276551#M2744 I've been using sharelatex/overleaf for a few years to collaboratively write LaTeX documents, and the workflow is really slow (make a change, "recompile" for a few seconds to render the document, manually scroll to the page you care about each time, repeat). I just started using Paper recently, and I'm amazed how much more productive I am when using it. When I saw that Paper supported LaTeX, I was ready to abandon sharelatex/overleaf immediately, but there is still a major impediment that gives me pause: No support multiline LaTeX statements. The requirement that everything has to be on one line is practically a deal breaker. Equations need the ability to contain newlines for readability and supporting naturally multiline environments like \begin{align*}. Even worse, I cannot scroll to the left or right when editing a long line of LaTeX, making it totally unusable. There are other ideas that describe this problem and are marked "Solved", but this issue is NOT solved. They have found inelegant hacks to work around this fundamental flaw. I understand that the automatic press-enter-to-render LaTeX is convenient, but if it procludes the use of actually supporting realistic LaTeX use, it needs to change. In Jupyter and Mathematica notebooks, they address this problem by making Enter still insert a newline character within a cell, but Shift+Enter actually executes (in this case, renders) the contents of the cell. I found existing posts asking "can I make Table of Contents always display?", with the answer "no you can't." I couldn't find a way to easily add clear "+1" for "I really want this feature", so I'm making a post. (I guess consider the actionable question here more like "I'd like it to be easier to register disagreement/unhappiness when a Paper Question's answer is 'it's supposed to be this way'") I get the value of distraction-free writing. But I use Paper as a tool to conduct meetings with my team. The documents quickly get quite long, and I'd consider it very important to know that other teammates can see when I've added another section header, so that they know they can contribute to that portion of the discussion. (Whereas if there is no Visible Table of Contents they're more likely to duplicate discussion in different parts of the doc)19KViews15likes9Comments
