I posted the same error message to the most recent post " Dropbox won't start after macOS Monterey update"

If the previous steps didn't resolve the issue, you can try the following.
1) Stop the Dropbox desktop application (if needed)
- Click on the Dropbox icon.
- Choose Quit/Stop/Exit
2) Open your Terminal app (Located at /Applications/Utilities/Terminal)
3) Copy and paste the following lines into the Terminal, one at a time, and press RETURN after each one. PLEASE make sure you copy and paste these commands (don't type them by hand), as getting them wrong could cause some harm. You'll be prompted for your computer user's password (not your Dropbox password) after entering the first command. Keep in mind that the password field in the terminal will remain blank as you type your password. After you type it, just press ENTER. You'll know that these instructions complete normally once the initial line of text (called prompt) comes up again:
sudo chflags -R nouchg ~/Dropbox ~/.dropbox
sudo chown "$USER" "$HOME"
sudo chown -R "$USER" ~/Dropbox ~/.dropbox
sudo chmod -RN ~/.dropbox ~/Dropbox
chmod -R u+rw ~/Dropbox ~/.dropbox
Please note that once the prompt displays, the instruction completed the requested task, and is ready for the next command. If the command returns an error, or does not respond after an hour, you may want to try restarting your computer and try these steps again.
If you see an error after running one of these commands, let us know.
4) Restart Dropbox from Applications
Keep us updated on any progress.
DISCLAIMER: Please be advised that these steps include using the Terminal application. You should only try this if you are comfortable using Terminal, as incorrect usage can result in unwanted consequences. If you are not familiar with Terminal or run into any issues or errors, please let us know and we’ll take your case to ticket to troubleshoot directly.

Update. Strange twist. Synching does not work (after the initial start) during the continuous operation of Dropbox (macOS 12.1 beta). After I had completed the Security & Privacy protocol Jay (Dropboxer) had listed and then rebooted Dropbox opened and synched previously uploaded files. However, uploading new files from iPadOS 15 to Dropbox worked just fine but the Dropbox on macOS 12.1 beta did not synch these new files. Go figure.

Jay I have gone through these steps, including all other solutions discussed in both threads on this topic. Dropbox still does not work, whatever I do. I run a MacBook 2017. Please reach out via mail and I can share info from Terminal, if that may be a help. Here is the error message from the Dropbox app:

Thank you Jay,
actually I clicked the wrong solution -
it wasn't the one in preferences which made it work,
but this one with the Terminal commands actually fixed the probem !
Thanks so much x I wouldn't have dared to use the Terminal.
But it's amazing how this inner programming world of a computer miraculously solves problems...

I followed the protocole but DropBox still doesn't start
- Jay3 years agoDropbox StaffHi Dan-en-Provence, if these steps aren't working, could you try contacting the support team directly on this matter?
- Dan-en-Provence3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Yes I did that and I'm waiting for their suggestions - I'll keep you informed

Hi Jay,
Sorry for taking so long to get this sorted but it worked after a couple of times!! yay
- RayNoyes3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
I've tried every single trick suggested by various people but still cannot get Dropbox to open in Monterey. Having spent what is a small fortune on a new iMac this is really getting to me.
- Jay3 years agoDropbox Staff
Hi RayNoyes, what specific error message are you getting? Do you get the same error log as in the original post?
- RayNoyes3 years agoExplorer | Level 4
Yes, that's right. One thing I've noticed is that in trying to give Dropbox access to files and folders (under Privacy) Dropbox icon is not 'active' - it's shaded. I've given full disk access and accessibility though.
I also tried the Activity Monitor to see if DB is busy but it's not. I've also tried Terminal and copied lines of 'code' I saw in one of th solutions but each time I paste one, Password? and a key symbol pop up.

Hi there! I am writing on this thread however my issue is a TAD different. I cannot download Dropbox or shall I say when I download it, it will not even open to be installed. I deleted the app that I had because it wouldn't open and was planning on just reinstalling but now it won't install. I am running Monterray 12.5. Any help would be appreciated!
- Jay3 years agoDropbox Staff
Hi heinric, could you let us know more details on what you're experiencing? Any error messages or other behavior?
- Audrey J.13 years agoExplorer | Level 3
Long time Dropbox user here. Had a working Dropbox installation on MacBook Air (M1, 2020) then today updated to Monterey 12.5 (21G72). Dropbox at this point stopped working correctly. I can't launch the app. I have tried the following without success:
* confirmed System Preferences > Security Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility > (checked) Dropbox.app AND Full Disk Access > (checked) Dropbox.app, then restarted machine.
* Activity Monitor > search for any process named "dropbox" and force killed > from clicking Apple icon launched Force Quit > force quit Finder, then restarted machine
After attempting these two processes and rebooting, neither fixed the issue. I still can't launch Dropbox.app from either Launchpad or from Finder ~/Applications/Dropbox.app. There is no error message. Activity Monitor shows only one process running "Dropbox Finder Extension". When I manually attempt to launch ~/Applications/Dropbox.app from Finder while looking at Activity Monitor, I see a "Dropbox" process start and then cease maybe 5-10 seconds later.
Is there any other fix I should attempt? Is there any other debug information that I might provide to help figure out what is happening?
