Can a "back" button be adder to the PDF viewer on iPad? We use Dropbox to host reference manuals, some are more than 1000 pages. It would be great if after clicking a link to a part of the document there was a back button which returned you to the previous page.

Hi @EvanC, I hope you're doing well!

Would it be too much trouble for you to send me a screenshot, as a future suggestion or where you'd like to see this feature located, when viewing your PDFs?

Also, feel free to clarify the OS, along with the Dropbox app version you're using.

Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Hey @EvanC, did you have the chance to review my message?

Hi Megan,

Sorry for the delay. I think the button could be invisible until the page is tapped, similar to the search and navigation buttons which are there already. See attached screenshot.

I am running iOS 17.3.1 on my iPad, along with Dropbox 368.2.2

Thank-you for following up, I'm very hopeful this function can be included soon.

Hi @EvanC - I'd love to learn a bit more about your situation and idea. What types of links are you referring to within the 1000 page manuals (anchor links that link to other parts within the document or links to external sites, etc)?

It sounds like you are wanting a more efficient way to navigate to different parts within very large PDF documents - is that right?

Hi @emilyc123,

You’re right, just looking for a more efficient way to navigate through a large PDF.

We’re working with links that link to other parts of the document. It could be a TOC or just a reference to another section in the document.
Ideally, I’d click through to the reference, read that page or two and then hit the back button to bring me back to where I started from.
Thanks,

Evan

Hi @emilyc123 , @Megan ,

Do you think this is functionality that could be added soon, or should we be looking at alternatives for hosting and viewing these files?

Thanks,

Evan

Need this functionality for viewing architectural and shop drawings that have hyperlinks from floor plans to elevations to detail pages. I need to be able to drill thru my document and regularly return back the the previously viewed page. I have an elevation of a building that has hyperlinked detail bubbles that take me to the detail page in my pdf and I need to be able to return to my elevation page with the back button for efficient use of my drawings.

Nice Idea!

This would be very useful for reading scientific papers which usually contain many references.

Example page with links:

But no way to easily go back to page 2 after navigating to page 16:
