There was a problem completing this request on https://www.dropbox.com/share/links

Hi,

I am facing an issue where I am seeing "There was a problem completing this request" when visiting https://www.dropbox.com/share/links. Looking at the dev tools, I noticed that loading the page generated 16 requests to /2/sharing/alpha/list_shared_links, of which the first 15 returned a 200 status with different cursor values and an empty links. The 16th request returned a 429 with an error message of "too many requests". This behavior persists across page refreshes as well as fresh logins.

Could this issue please be fixed, since there doesn't seem to be a way to view the links on the desktop or mobile apps either? Ideally there should be 1) a way to not return empty results, 2) better spacing between the requests so that they do not cause the 429, and 3) a button to retry the request with the latest cursor in case of failure.

Hey there, @DB_IG, thanks for posting here!

Do you notice this behavior on a specific browser, and if so which one? If you try to access the page on a different browser, or incognito mode do you notice an improvement?

Do you have a few screenshots, in order for us to have a visual too?

Keep us posted!

Hi, I noticed the behavior on Firefox (private browsing), but it persists even on Chromium (regular). I am attaching a screenshot showcasing the URL, error message, as well as the 16 requests to list_shared_links, of which the last one is a 429 as mentioned in the original post.

Hey @DB_IG, sorry to jump in, but just to check, are you seeing the same thing, when you're connected to a different network?

Hi, yes, this happens on other networks too. This is because the Dropbox website itself is generating too many (and unneeded) requests to list_shared_links in a short period of time, hence causing the 429 with an error message of too_many_requests. This is unfortunately not a configuration issue on my side, but a bug that a Dropbox engineer would need to fix for https://www.dropbox.com/share/links.

Thanks for the update, @DB_IG.

Can you also make sure to clear your browser's cache and to make sure that you have the latest version of Firefox installed (115.0.3)?

Hi, I have cleared my cache several times, and am on the latest version of Firefox (which is actually 116.0 as of today).

I see, thanks for that, @DB_IG.

Is it okay to send you an email, so we can investigate this further?
