I updated my Dropbox in macOS 4 times now but still have a number '1' in a badge on the icon. What can I do about that?

Are you perhaps referring to the unread notifications icon that’s mentioned at the bottom of this Help Center article?
If that’s not it, please feel free to send me a screenshot of what you see, and I’ll have a look for you.

So far I tried everything you proposed, both via the MacOS icon as well as in my account. Without the badge '1' disappearing. Do you have any further suggestions?
HI @imatch, when you click the Dropbox icon, do you see any yellow messages in the various tabs of the app?
A screenshot of this would help us greatly.

Yes Jay, the message in yellow says, see the pic, that I can update my MacOS Dropbox application, which I did for about 4 times.
If you click the bell icon on the top right, does it come up with any additional yellow banners?

No, the announcement box is empty.
Hey @imatch, have you tried quitting the Dropbox app and then relaunching it, to see if that helps?

Yes, I did that and guess what, the badge with the number '1' is still there (snif).

I checked with our Team and engineers about this, and they're aware of this issue internally. We are looking into this, and hope to resolve it as soon as possible.
