It would be super handy to edit txt files in the preview window that opens when you click a document in your dropbox in the browser. So I can quickly store some text without having the pain of downloading - editing-uploading
Just an idea :)

This would be super useful - it has been a long requested feature from many people, and would be great if it was implemented. It would save a large amount of time for many people.
Also, if it included markdown support, that would also be good.

Can we please add this feature? It is SO simple, and a fundamental component of the toolset that certain clients (I.E. me) use everytime they use Dropbox, as a tool. Please! :)
*Just an option when the User right-clicks for 'Edit' would be perfect! And dang easy to implement, relatively... :)

Yes, please.

I'd love to edit text files online. And not just files ending in .txt. I routinely edit txt, md, tex, etc.

Indeed! They added it to the dropbox android app so it should isn't something they haven't done before...

Yes, please. It would be very useful to edit files directly on the dropbox space. This is needed, if you work on a computer, where there is no local mirror of the dropbox content. And, yes, please, allow to edit every file in text mode, regardless of the extension (e.g. .txt). With the risk to see garbage on the screen, :-) .

Absolutely - This has been requested for many years, yet this - the simplest of features - isn't here.

Would it be possible to achieve? I often find myself in a situation in which I have to edit a .txt file and I have to download to my computer, edit it and upload again. In my opinion it takes too much time. So, would it be possible? It does not have to be anything fancy, just a simple plain text editor will do. I saw the same suggestion earlier but it ended without any response from the support. Thanks in advance.

Love the new ability to edit Office files, but I don't often work with Word if I can avoid it. How about letting us edit plain .txt files? Seems simpler than Office support.

Yes good one! Why isn't it possible to open and edit .txt files in Office Mobile through Dropbox?

I feel the same way. It has been three months. Is anyone there to answer the question?

You'd have to ask Microsoft as it's their system.
or any other app!
There are plenty of apps available that will connect to Dropbox and allow you to edit text files. Have you looked through the store for your platform?
Here's a great list for iOS text editors. Click the Dropbox column header and it will show only those that have Dropbox support. There are also web-based text editors that will connect to Dropbox. Some pay, some free. A quick Google search located several.

Dropbox has a utility for editing Office files, for playing video, and editing text on Android. But it can't read a text file without an extension and can't make simple edits to text in browser. . This is the sort of indifference to feature requests keeps me from giving Dropbox money.
