What's new in Dropbox - 5th Edition
Hi all
Welcome to another edition of our 'What's New in Dropbox'. If you missed any previous edition, you can read them all here.
The goal of this edition is to give you a bit more insights on what's happening in Dropbox and Dropbox Paper. You're welcome to add comments and feedback!
Thanks and have a great read :)
Desktop IPv6
The Dropbox application now supports connecting on networks that utilize IPv6 addressing. Should your internal network operate with IPv6 addresses then the desktop application will recognize this and operate within this environment. If, for any reason, the network were to change to using IPv4 addressing then we would continue to operate.
In the event that you are running a dual-stack IP implementation and both IPv6 and IPv4 are available, Dropbox will take the IPv6 network by default but may take IPv4 in situations where IPv6 addresses are slow to resolve.
Drag and Drop on Paper
We’ve recently released drag and drop features for columns and rows in Paper tables. Now you can reorganize your tables without having to copy/paste the content!
Raw photo previews
Dropbox now previews raw photos on the web, iOS, and Android apps. We support previews for multiple file type extensions. You can see the full list here. There are some exceptions to which RAW file extensions are supported, and we will share more updates on this once we have more information.
New Dropbox web with enhanced UI
To make dropbox.com even better and easier to use, we’re rolling out an updated design. A few things have changed with the redesigned version of dropbox.com. You can read them all in details on our Help Center:
- Simpler navigation
- Switch between linked accounts
- Checkboxes let you take action on files or folders
- See your team members
Hope you enjoyed it!

With this new Dropbox web layout, the column on the right with the Share folder, Upload Files options takes away a lot of screen space. Now if you have files with long names, there is no way to view the whole name, and there is a huge column of blank space on the right. What a poor design change.
And you can no longer see the file size for each file, please add that feature back, that is very important!! How do I see the file size now??

All the reason, lousy the new layout
- j_walkerNew member | Level 2
Agreed! The change in graphics was unnecessary

The new Dropbox is awful. Why do I have to keep checking and unchecking folders every time I want to edit or do anything with files in the online version? It's a waste of time and serves no purpose.

Guys, please bring the old UI back. This one is very impracticle. It takes ages to download files by clicking them each separately and then pressing the Download button. It's just unnecessary. What I used to do was - L Click on a file and then R Click > Download and It worked flawlessly. Now I have to click on a small check box, move my mouse over the download button, then uncheck the file and check a new one. I know I can select multiple but it's all zipped and it takes time to download and then unzip it for 2 files. It's unnecessary, it's overly complicated. Now the old method is gone. Why change from so much better UI with so many capabilites to this limp one that has almost no options to chose from and it is overly complicated? Please bring the old UI back or at least provide that option to select the old UI. That's all I ask for (and what many others are asking too as I could see).
Thank you
- joesuNew member | Level 2Was feeling the same, and that brought me to this community. I guess the purpose of saving and keeping a copy locally is to be "safe", from Dropbox's perspective. Also the blue light indicator (instead of the cloud icon) could serve as a reminder to keep track of files that have been recently opened. That said, after clicking on 3 files, this has become a tedious exercise, and impossible one after finishing a day's work.
- Robert H.1Helpful | Level 6I like check boxes. Makes it easier to control accurately many files through the pages.
- alertpilotNew member | Level 2The latest trends in UI's over-simplify pages render them almost useless. I like the earlier interface. The trend toward flat, washed-out colors/gray/single-color is plain ugly. How does it help productivity? Why are we going back in time? We have multiple core, fast cpus and video, why are we going to these plain, boring interfaces which hide everything? The information density on the new UI is very limited in functionality. More mouse clicks and scrolling are required, features are hidden or non-existent. Your effort to make it "simple" actually makes it more complicated. If I were accessing on a phone I cam see why it might be OK however I like to see options, I like choices and I feel the new UI is poor. Not everyone accesses your site on a phone or tablet. Can you provide an option to display the older UI, please?
- Joseph C.23Collaborator | Level 9I completely agree. with your statement 100%.

Sorry if I missed it, but cannot find the Events menu any more. It is the absolute must have feature for me. Do you plan to reintroduce it?
Thanks

I have to say that the changes look nice, but in the recent tab the updates have gone backwards as least as far as it applies to my work. I need to have more, not less options to search for recent changes, particularly by others with access to my files. IT was difficult before, not it is impossible. Unless I am missing something.

This update to the web log in and navigation makes it harder to be productive. Requiring me to use my mouse for everything. How do I change it back to the old why? Why wasnt this atomaticly an option??? This sucks!! I've used db for years now am ready to move my whole team to another service if this is going to be the way you do businsss...

I'd like to commend the team on the new rendition of Dropbox. Great work I am sure lots of people will find these new features usefull.
Now, where is that classic view option? Also, can we please get back right click?
Thank you

The old events log was VERY useful, especially when I am looking for the files I hurriedly uploaded during a client meeting- like I was the very day this new UI went live.
I see the old /events URL extension still works and formats to the new UI. How about making it a navigable option from Recents? - tomachasHelpful | Level 5
Now we're talking. Thanks dropbox team!
