What happens to my files when I cancel my subscription?
Hi, what will happen to my Files if I cancel my subscription? I have dropbox plus and the number of GB I keep there is more than the limit of the non-paying versions. There are also many important f...

Nothing happens to your files when your subscription expires. At most, if you're over your storage quota when your subscription expires you simply won't be able to sync your files, but they'll remain accessible through the Dropbox website. Your files are not deleted or removed from the account.
If you're no longer seeing your files, something else is the cause.

Thats a lie - I cancelled my subscription.
Although they tell you that you can still access all your files... You can't.
I have about 40GB that I can't access in the 'shared section'.
Download everything before you cancel.

Does your account still exist? Could it be that it was deleted? Are you able to sign into the account on the Dropbox website?
If your account was deleted for some reason, your files woul dbe deleted as well, with no chance of recovery. Note that account deletion doesn't happen automatically unless the account was inactive for more than one year.
... so how cna I check what's the problem with my files?Have you checked your Events page to see if it shows anything?

what means I can't change my files. Does it mean that I can't download them, or I just can't make a copy and make a shered link to them and etc?
- Hannah4 years agoDropbox StaffHey Samun, thanks for nudging us on this!
If you cancel a subscription and your account gets downgraded, there's a chance that you'll be over the available quota for the free account.
This means you won't be able to upload more files, or edit the ones you have. But you can still download them from our website or access them from a connected device.
Let me know if you have any questions!
- joannabrandi4 years agoNew member | Level 2Thanks Rich - I'm feeling rather desperate. I'm not sure what was in there and I suspect I lost some important client files. It's possible given the email address I used, that maybe my a credit card expired and my account didn't automatically renew. Does Dropbox still have my files? I can't find them. Even more perplexing is that I sent a client 2 videos at the end of last year and he never opened them and he just recently did and according to him dropbox seemed to have cannabalized many of the files on HIS computer and captured them and he can't figure out what to do. I am the only one who sent videos via drop box and he is VERY upset.
Any thoughts?? My email is [email removed as per Community Guidelines] and at the moment I'm feeling quite unhappy. Might you help? - alley52 years agoNew member | Level 2
As a Dropbox user that's not the administrator with my company how can I continue to access the files when the company is going out of business? My business email address associated with the account will inevitably disappear as well. I'm not very tech savvy but I do know it's too much information to save to my computer.

Hey there, alley5, thanks for posting here!
It all depends to the "fate" of the account after them going out of Business.
What I mean is, they might decide to keep the account, or delete it, or downgrade it.
In any case, I'd suggest what you already mentioned, which would be to download content locally, or to an external drive.
Also, depending on the Team's sharing settings, you can create a new, personal account and share content there, directly from the Team.
If you have any questions, let me know!
