I think I just answered my own question on how to install Dropbox on CentOS. My solution combines two suggestions I found online
First, follow the instructions of Nasir Riley here:
https://serverfault.com/questions/997896/how-to-enable-powertools-repository-in-centos-8
This installs a package called 'powertools'. Apparently it is needed and resolves the missing package problem I and others mentioned previously.
Next, follow the instructions of Eduardo Santana on this page:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/60667256/cant-install-nautilus-dropbox-on-centos-8
This installs the Dropbox executable. You then can find the Dropbox icon with the 'Show Applications' button. Clicking on it will start the actual installation of Dropbox and create the Dropbox directory on your local system.
I hope that helps!
