Mac OS Dropbox Update filled up my hard drive completely! Files still show as being online only.
I updated to the new desktop version of Dropbox, and in re-syncing my files, it completely maxed out my hard drive! Previously my hard drive was only about 25% full, as most of my files were stored O...

Hi— Yes, after spending 2 hours on the phone with Apple, and 3 hours at the Genius Bar, I was able to get it resolved. However, only because my housemate is a software engineer and he worked some magic for me.
The "New" Dropbox for Mac OS filled my hard drive with "System Files", to a degree my computer wound't function because there was no hard disk space.
My housemate was able to remove the files through the Terminal, and then I did a system re-install.
I uninstalled Dropbox and removed all Dropbox items from my machine. BUT the system was still writing over 3000 functions per second back-and-forth to my hard drive. This was caused by Dropbox. After rebooting a few times in Safe Mode, this behavior finally stopped. I re-installed Dropbox but NOT The new update. This is 100% on Dropbox, and I lost over $1200.00 of work that day. This update is HORRIBLE everyone should stay away.
Additionally, the new icons in the finder that indicates if files are local or in the cloud are confusing and unnecessary. The current Cloud icon or Green Dot work really well. DB really messed up on this one IMO.

Hi there Sosebot, sorry to hear about this.
Could you send us a screenshot of the app's status as shown in your menu bar at the moment and another one showing us where you spotted the hard drive space discrepancy?
As for the expected changes with the new desktop app for Mac OS, you can have a look here.
In any case, please keep us posted!

Cute idea, but not even enough space on my disk to save a screenshot. Finally got this resolved but it was a horrible experience.
