iOS unable to save to Dropbox from Chrome or Safari
- When attempting to export a pdf file from iOS 12 iPad, Chrome or Safari the original file name changes to "file" followed my the month, day, hour, minute & second. Have attempted from iPhone and problem does not occur. Need the original name maintained during the exporting operation.
Hi Walter,
Thank you for your response.
I’m trying to save from Chrome. In Chrome there is no export option within the (...)
I am using the square with the arrow, also in the top right corner. This provides the option of Save to Dropbox.
However, as suggested, I cleared the cache. This has now allowed me to save from the bottom right. When I tap screen option Open In...appears, and I now have the option to Save to Dropbox from here.
So original problem still exists, but the work around is fine.
Thanks for the additional information RBiOS - much appreciated.
Could you do me a favor and try this on another browser and let me know if you get the same results?
If not, this would mean that the problem you're experiencing comes from Chrome itself, not Dropbox, and in that case the best way to tackle this would be to reach out to Google (or Chrome's developers) directly.
Keep me posted on your findings please and happy November!

Hey there RBiOS - sorry to hear about this.
Could you please confirm you're using these steps to export your PDF files?
- Open the file you’d like to export in the Dropbox app
- Tap the ellipsis (..) on the top-right and select “Export”. You will now see two rows of apps.
- In the lower row, tap “Open In…” - this will show you a list of apps to export this file to. If you don’t see any apps indicated, you will need to download an app that supports this filetype.
Please note that exporting a file saves a copy of the file to another app. Exported files will not sync with your Dropbox account.
If you're still having this issue, could you let me know if it persists after clearing your browser's cache, on other browsers and/or on an incognito or private browsing window?
If you're still getting an error or having a problem, please attach a screenshot so we can have a visual too in your next response.
Thanks in advance and happy Halloween!

I have the same issue. This is with an iPad. In Safari, I can save the PDF to Dropbox. In Chrome, I only have an option to save a file (that is not the PDF).

I solved it by opening Dropbox app. Turns out that Dropbox app just needs some updating.
