Incorrect dropbox space usage on windows
Hi Guys,
My local Windows Dropbox is fully synced with my online Dropbox. Windows Explorer file/properties shows my Dropbox folder is 576 MB but to my surprise, dropbox.com and dropbox app both say my dropbox is full. I have checked the plan tab and found my regular file size is 3.4 GB which is not correct. My shared folder only takes less than 100 MB. What is going on here? Why the discrepancy? Any inputs?
Thanks,
Tao
We can confirm that the most recent releases of Dropbox should have resolved this issue. Users affected by this issue were unable to see all of the backups on their account. This meant that when they believe they deleted some or all of their files, there could still be backups taking up space on their account. This should no longer be affecting users who should be able to see all of their backups.
You can find out deleted information on disabling and deleting backups below:
If you disable the backup and choose to "Leave content in Dropbox", your backup content would still be there until it was permanently deleted.
When you go to the Backups page and see no content, be sure to check the deleted section, too.
You can download the files from this location if you need to store them locally on your device.
To clear out the data from the deleted backup, follow these steps:- Navigate to
dropbox.com/backup/all
- Click on
Show deleted backups
- Select their backup and click on
permanently delete
Some users did not have backups, but they were members of shared folders which were taking up space on their accounts. You can remove shared folders using these instructions.
If you are still experiencing quota issues after following these steps, then confirm that we can reach out to you via email and our support agents will look into this with you.- Navigate to

Have you checked your Backups page?

Thanks a lot, Rich! The backup somehow takes 2.9 GB but I am not aware I did a backup before. After deleting it, the storage is correct again.

Plan pages shows using 2.76 GB of 4.25 GB storage.
There are NO files, NO shared folders, NO backups, No deleted files, No Deleted backups. I've deleted the cache, rebooted the computer, deleted the dropbox app.
What is taking 2.76 GB of storage? it is currently NOT set up to sync to any computer or phone.

I am having an issue where it says my DropBox is full, but it's only at 89.4MB, when I should have the 2GB space available. There is no support from the company on this issue. One area tells me I am at 4.1 GB of "Regular Files" and 89.4 MB of Shared Files. What are the Regular Files? How do I delete them? And why is getting a human to answer my question impossible? This doesn't make me want to expand my relationship with DropBox to a larger DropBox subscription.

I am having the same issue. I contacted support and got a generic email with links to their support page! I am happy to delete the Regular files, but I con't figure out how to get to them.

I have the same issue, hope they solve this
- NotAmusedNew member | Level 2Seems obvious to me this is a kind of scam to get users or former users to pay money to see and access non-existent files. Nobody has time foe this nonsense!

Hello dropbox community,
My old problem was still not settled yet. Currently my dropbox is full with shadows files. I cannot delete all those files. This happened when I installed dropbox for laptop. My question is how can I get my dropbox back from the scratch. Access dropbox from laptop, there are no files, none but there’s notification my dropbox is already full capacity. However, access dropbox from android and ipad, both shows shadows files such as exe etc. What should I do. Many thanks in advance for big help.

Hey Liz_raffly, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please try deleting any files you see on your account's homepage and on this page as well and let me know how it goes?
Thanks!

My dropbox keeps telling me that it is full (20 GB) and therefore not syncing. I only had 4 out of 6,75 GB on it but even after I deleted that i still get the same message. I Sat 1 hour with customer service on messenger but they could not work it out.

My dropbox website claims I have exceeded my quota, but when I look at all files, the amount of space I'm actually using is very small. I've looked on the forum and seen similar issues solved by checking for "backup" files and "shared" files but I don't have any of those. I can't figure out why Dropbox is claiming I'm out of storage space and I keep getting popups asking me to upgrade.

Hey chosen2945 & Nicklas Boesen, sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please clarify what is shown in your plan tab in regards to your quota?
Do you see any files or folders taking up space in your homepage or the backups page?
Let us know what you find and we'll take it from there .

PLEASE Advise

What does www.dropbox.com/account/plan say?
That tells you how much you are using of your quota
- Matt1aExplorer | Level 4
Hi, It says 2 gb --free plan
But I also have 5.5 GB bonus from referrals and my DB has 5GB at the moment, which I have had for years without problem.
TIA

I have the 2GB plan. Yesterday I was told I was almost out of space, so I removed (and deleted) almost a GB worth of files. It then showed me I now had only 1.2 something GB.
Today, I got the same message that I’m almost out of space, that I’ve used 1.8 GB!
When I view my folders in a list on the Finder, and manually add them up on a calculator, they add up to only 1.2 something GB.
When I log in to Dropbox and go to my account, it also shows me that I have used only 1.02 GB!
How do I tell the Dropbox on my iMac and MacBook Air (both from 2017) that it does not have 1.8 GB worth of stuff on it!
I’m running Mac OS 12.3.1

Is Dropbox on the other devices running and have you given it time for them to update and sync the changes to the directories?

Hello community,
I am looking for answers regarding the aggressive promotion policy from Dropbox. Although I have earned via promotions extended storage (5.75 GB - see image2), on other page (see image 1) it says I am using 5.25 out of 2GB. What comes next? Will my files be deleted or?
Thank you.

Image 2 is accurate. It's showing you the plan your on, not your total storage quota. A Basic plan includes 2GB of space to start, with the ability to earn more (as you have).
You don't need to upgrade if you don't want to. Just ignore the message and continue using Dropbox as you have. Your files won't be deleted, even if you were over your quota. Syncing might stop until you're back below your storage limit, but your files wouldn't be deleted as long as the account is active.

Jeg har flyttet mine gamle filer fra Dropbox, så min pc nu er tom.
Db angiver fortsat at være fyldt op, hvorfor? Hvordan ændrer jeg det?

I've moved my old files from Dropbox, so my PC is now empty.
Db still says full, why? How do I change it?

Hi Tommytot, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you check to see if you have any files on the backups page?
This will help me to assist further!

Hej Tommytot, tak fordi du gjorde os opmærksom på dette.
Kan du tjekke, om du har nogen filer på sikkerhedskopieringssiden?
Dette vil hjælpe mig med at hjælpe yderligere!

I have deleted every file from Dropbox, there are no shared folders. I unistallad Dropbox on all devices. The Drpobox All file show no files, 0 shared files.
Yet the Plan tab says that 1.1 GB is used.
How to fix this? Where are these files?

Check your Backups page.
- raidtariqExplorer | Level 4Hi,
I know this is not new and I read the others issue with this but none was helpful.
I got the Full Use of Storage notification while I gave over 70% not used. It says 7.25G used of 7.25G while in fact I use only 1.5G.
I went back and delere some files, it even makes it worst. Deleting more… geting more used space.
None of these below attempt helped:
1- Cleaned the cache.
2- Delete old files throught dropbox website.
3- Unshard the old folders that is nit in use anymore.
4- Permanently delete all files that are in the recycled box.
5- Uninstalled and reinstall Dropbox.
6- Signed out and sign in again.
7- unlink and relink my account.
No matter what do, or deleting more files, Dropbox use more space. It might be a bug that will fix automatically, but I want to share or report this issue
Thanks,

I have removed all my files from Dropbox, and left one Word and one Excel document in there, which is 3.4 meg, yet it says I am using over 4Gig of space!!! It is really frustrating! I have deleted the desktop app and added it again and it's apparently not backing up my computer as I checked that - what could it be???? Please help!

Leighlynn wrote:

You checked your Backups page? If so and there's nothing there, give it a few hours to update and check your space usage again.

My dropbox account says I have 78Gb used and it´s not true, for that reason my free account no longer works and syncs.
I tried everything, deleting all shared folders, all my files and folders also!, my deleted folder, and still 78Gb used.
Uninstalled dropbox from my PC too.
What can I do? the only thing that I can do is delete my entire account and create it again, but I think that would lower my storage plan limit if I loss my referrals accounts bonus.
