ACTUAL SPACE BEING USED TO COMPARE ONLINE VS OFFLINE

I wish to view my actual use of storage online vs. offline.

If I choose to make available offline, then they should be equal.

All past searches as well as Google searches reference old screenshots and nothing relevant to what exists today.

Mac, is my PC, cloud is your Dropbox.

If cloud says XYZ Gb is being used (12345,000 files, as and example) local PC should equal with XYZ GB and 12345,000 files being stored locally.

How do I see, compare, validate, check?

WHY is this becoming such a challenge to use?

All the complaining in these forums, yet nothing seems to actually be easy!

    AS PER ONLINE REPORT VIA APP=Personal Dropbox space

    Using 395.5 GB of 2.03 TB, Regular files (391.7 GB), Backup (0 bytes), Replay (0 bytes),Shared files (3.7 GB), Unused space (1.6 TB)

    AS PER ON MAC DROPBOX FOLDER

    424,776,499,673 bytes (425.25 GB on disk) for 158,304 items

    Where are the missing files, why are they not syncing to cloud, why is there no ###,### ITEMS as shown on the desktop OS and not showing on the cloud referenced app?

    Just to be clear here, mass confusion, why?  SO many posts on these forums with SO many issues, what is it about Dropbox that makes life SO difficult?  

    AND, following up regarding why I cannot see managing of right context menu to make ALL OFFLINE available?

      Hi Guruuno,

      You might want to check in your Dropbox account via the web browser by or by clicking this link while logged in on your account : www.dropbox.com/account/general and go to Preferences , then scroll down to the bottom you will see , as shown in screenshot " Online-only files on Mac". This will help you find out which files are taking up your hard drive space because if you turn the enable button ON , the system will display the file sizes in Mac folder as zero bytes so you can easily know which files are all saved in your Hard Drive . Those listed as zero bytes are automatically regarded as online-only files. Hope this helps,

    It's expected that your local Dropbox folder will often be larger than the size of the files that you're actually syncing. The Dropbox folder contains a hidden .dropbox.cache folder that Dropbox uses during the sync process and to temporarily store files deleted elsewhere (online or on other devices).

    When checking the size of the local Dropbox folder, it will include everything stored in the folder, including the hidden cache folder and any files or folders that you've told Dropbox to ignore, if any.

    Hi guruuno, thanks for messaging the Community.

    The Dropbox cache folder can contain a lot of data in it, and while it should be emptied automatically, sometimes this doesn't happen, and might need to be emptied manually.

    Additionally, there are specific files that aren't uploaded to Dropbox which could potentially add to the local file storage, such as those listed here.

    I apologize for the delayed response.

    I have multiple locations of my dropbox folder

    Macintosh users, username library, iCloud, storage dropbox at one time I had used sync to the machine then I said sync to the cloud then I said download everything keep it on the computer then I said, put it back on the cloud now I have two locations and it's all a mangled mess and if I go to the Dropbox on the cloud, the Dropbox on the cloud is only showing 350gb, of 1.2 tb, and Dropbox is in 2 locations.

    HOW do I get ALL my stuff BACK on the local drive, I have no control?
