Mark is correct here; it's not the service you're using, it's that you don't have an application on your device that can open the files. Outlook uses a proprietary message format (messages are saved as .MSG files) and they can't be opened by just any program. If OneDrive can read them natively then I suspect that Microsoft programmed it that way since both products are created by Microsoft.
The simple solution is to get a program on your device that can open .MSG files, then it won't matter what service you store them on.

You will need to download and install an app which can open .eml - the Dropbox software isnt capable of this

Hi Mark, thanks for the info. I wasnt prepared for this and dont really like the idea. I am moving away from Onedrive, which lets me view emails on the PC as well as mobile/notepad. Dropbox really doesnt seem a good alternative for my usage. Same problems with sync.com. Is the only alternative gmail/google drive if one wants to store emails in a folder and view it on the go?

You cannot really compare to a computer as that will have software on it which does it already for you. Most of these programs are simply like a USB pen - there job is to get the stuff to the device. Opening things is then down to the device.
In terms of what Google does, sorry, I'm not sure.
