Thanks for posting on the forum, speilee!
Just a clarification; are you referring to the files currently uploaded to your Dropbox account here, or have you also enabled computer backup and you’d like to make sure your main computer folders (Desktop/Documents/Downloads) go back to their original locations first?
Let me know, and we’ll take it from there.

I have the same issue. Still getting 'link' on documents 'where are my files". I want to get all of my files back on my computer as I no longer want to use Drop Box.

Hey dockap, if backup is off for your computer, and you still have the Dropbox app installed, you should be able to reset your desktop folders back to their original locations, by following these steps:
1) Click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar.
2) Click your profile picture or initials.
3) Click 'Preferences'.
4) Click the 'Accounts' tab.
5) Press the Option key and at the same time click the 'Reset OS folders locations' button.Let me know how it goes!

I want to do the same. Dropbox has caused a mess on my computer (mac) and I've been trying to drag all the files in the dropbox folder to my portable hard drive. I removed the checks in the boxes for backup to dropbox but it appears some folders I dragged into the portable drive are empty. How do I get all my files downloaded from dropbox and remove its "tentacles"?

Hey rbmtexas and dockap. Just to make sure we're on the same page; did you follow all the steps outlined here to disable computer backup, before taking any other actions on your Dropbox app?
Let me know, and we can take a closer look.

nothing is being backed up now. I want to return control of my computer to me I don't know how else to put it. Going into the "backup and sync" when clicking on the dropbox in menu tab does not seem to do much, have to go through preferences to backup. Again, I would like to remove its actions on my computer, if I keep the software at all I think I'd rather manually drop files into it.
